Wichita, Kan. — WSU Tech welcomed representatives from Rusty Eck Ford to campus this week as the dealership presented a philanthropic contribution in support of the college’s automotive technology program. The $16,000 gift, made to the WSU Tech Foundation, strengthens a growing partnership that already includes the donation of a 2023 Ford F-150 earlier this year.
Automotive students and faculty gathered for a brief ceremony, where Rusty Eck Ford leaders spoke directly to students about the importance of their training and the demand for skilled technicians in the industry.
“We don’t have a business without skilled technicians,” said Kyle Eck of Rusty Eck Ford. “Your learning is what is going to help our business grow. When we invest in WSU Tech, we’re investing in the future of our dealership, our customers, and our community. The more support we can give to students who want to build careers in this field, the stronger our entire industry will be, and that’s why we are committed to this partnership.”
WSU Tech leaders emphasized that employer partnerships play a critical role in ensuring students have access to the tools, technology, and real-world experiences needed to succeed in today’s workforce.
“Partnerships with employers are essential to everything we do,” said Dr. Jennifer Seymour, Vice President of Applied Technologies and General Education at WSU Tech. “Our automotive program stays relevant and innovative because industry partners like Rusty Eck Ford are willing to invest in our students and engage directly with them. Their support helps us create hands-on, high-quality learning environments that reflect current industry expectations and prepare students for immediate employment.”
The new contribution will support program resources that enhance student learning and maintain alignment with industry standards. Combined with the earlier vehicle donation, the support from Rusty Eck Ford demonstrates a sustained commitment to developing the region’s automotive talent pipeline.
“We are grateful for the confidence Rusty Eck Ford has placed in our students and our program,” Seymour added. “This type of investment truly makes an impact—not just on individual students, but on Wichita’s workforce as a whole.”
