WSU Tech launches a new scholarship titled Future You. This two-year scholarship is designed for graduating seniors who plan to begin attending WSU Tech in the Fall 2021 semester. This is the first time in the history of the college that WSU Tech has offered a first-time freshman scholarship.
“Over the last several years we have been very focused on how we at WSU Tech can remove the financial barrier for individuals who are wanting to pursue higher education and training towards a career,” said Dr. Sheree Utash, President, WSU Tech “We have been successful with programs like the Wichita Promise that was tailored more towards non-traditional adults and the Jumpstart program for students still in high school, but we didn’t have a program for those coming fresh out of high school. When I heard the statistics on how many seniors do not make decisions to continue any type of post-secondary education after graduation, I knew we needed to create a really focused effort to try and encourage this population.”
Recipients of the scholarship will receive $600 each year, $300 for the fall semester and $300 for the spring semester, to be used towards tuition and fees for technical education or general education classes. The scholarship can be renewed for a total of up to two years. To be eligible, applicants must be a 2021 high school graduate, be enrolled full-time (12 hours) throughout the year, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 on their high school transcript.
“We are thrilled to launch this new scholarship initiative for our local graduating seniors,” said Justin Pfeifer, Vice President of Student Services, WSU Tech, “Outside of it helping with the affordability of college, the most exciting thing about this scholarship is the ease in which they can receive it. No essays, no test scores, no FAFSA application, students just need to apply, complete the admissions requirements and they can be qualified. It’s a very simple process.”
