$100,000 in scholarships for the fall 2016 semester offered to high school students who want to pursue technical education at WSU Tech
WICHITA, Kan. – More than $100,000 awaited graduating high school students intending to pursue career and technical education (CTE) at WSU Tech . The scholarships were awarded at WSU Tech’s second-annual CTE Signing Day Feb. 18, 2016, from 12:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at WSU Tech’s main campus, the National Center for Aviation Training at 4004 N. Webb Road.
“This is an amazing opportunity for graduating high school students,” said Andy McFayden, Director of Marketing and Community Outreach at WSU Tech. “Not only because $500 and $1,000 scholarships are there for the taking, but also because the skills WSU Tech teaches will lead directly to high-wage jobs.”
To receive a scholarship, high school seniors simply registered at wsutech.edu/signingday, attended the Feb. 18 event and need to enroll by May 1, 2016, for fall technical education classes starting in August. Students chose from more than 100 technical programs of study and received a $500 scholarship. The first 25 who chose either Machining Technology or Aviation Maintenance Technology – Airframe & Powerplant received a $1,000 scholarship.
The event, which is conducted in conjunction with the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), featured speakers from Snap-On and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Performance Institute. Following the presentations, high school students broke into small groups to complete a “Letter of Intent” signing ceremony which qualifies – but does not obligate – students to accept a scholarship and enroll in WSU Tech classes in the fall of 2016.
WSU Tech is a Kansas Board of Regents institution and the state’s leader in modern technical education, offering 100 programs of study in areas such as aviation, healthcare, manufacturing, design and business. WSU Tech serves as managing partner of the National Center for Aviation Training in Wichita. Additionally, NCAT is home to some operations of Wichita State University and its National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR).
