WICHITA, Kan. – WSU Tech hosted a community Open House Thursday, April 28 from 3 to 7 p.m. at their Southside Center (4501 E. 47th St. S.) and Grove campus (301 S. Grove). There were over 350 people in attendance at the two campuses. This was the first opportunity for those in attendance to apply for the recently announced Wichita Promise scholarship program. This program pays for students’ tuition and fees, for select programs, and guarantees a job interview at completion.
A highlight of the Open House was the grand opening of the newly renovated Climate and Energy Control Technologies lab at WSU Tech’s City Center. The new lab, funded through a $1.5 million KanTrain grant, features all new state-of-the-art Trane heating and air conditioning equipment and Snap-on tools for students to learn about and train on. Attendees were able to explore programs in healthcare, manufacturing, design, business, automotive, transferable general education courses and more. WSU Tech also introduced two new health programs, Veterinary Technician and Massage Therapy, both set to launch August 2016. The Veterinary Technician program is part of the $2.25 million Department of Education grant WSU Tech received last October that enables WSU Tech to broaden pathways to high-potential professions by expanding access to health science programs. Other new programs announced include EMT & Paramedic and Cardiac Sonography.
WSU Tech is a Kansas Board of Regents institution and the state’s leader in modern technical education, offering over 100 programs of study in aviation, healthcare, manufacturing, design and business.
