WSU Tech plans to implement new programs in Veterinarian Technician and Cardiac Sonography with first Title III grant in its 50-year history

WICHITA, Kan. – WSU Tech has been awarded a 5-year, $2.25 million, Title III grant from the Department of Education. This is the first Department of Education grant that WSU Tech has received in its 50-year history.

The initiative, titled “Pathways to Success in Health Sciences” is planned to broaden pathways to high-potential professions by expanding access to health science programs and strengthen targeted support services.

“This grant was written based on a vision of how WSU Tech could better meet the needs of our community. To have the opportunity to bring that vision to fruition is exciting and energizing.”

Pam Doyle, Chief Academic Officer of General Education, WSU Tech

The grant will enable WSU Tech to enhance healthcare simulation labs, build new health programs in areas such as Veterinarian Technician, Cardiac Sonography, and paramedic and EMT Certification.

“While WSU Tech was the one who received the Title III grant, it really is a huge win for Wichita and the surrounding communities. Expanding WSU Tech’s Division of Health Sciences to include Cardiac Sonography and Veterinary Sciences provides students with more choices than ever before.”

Beth Buchholz, Associate Dean, Health Science, WSU Tech

The grant also supports the initiatives to develop coordinated guidance and academic support for students in health science programs through a more robust academic advisoring system that would include online resources and the establishment of a new centralized Health Sciences Success Center.

“WSU Tech is honored to receive this grant, which will help our efforts to become a world class college by enhancing our program opportunities for students in healthcare and expanding our outreach in student services and academic support services.  We are grateful to the Department of Education for recognizing WSU Tech’s strong commitment to building a more robust college for healthcare, strengthening our institution through continuous improvement in services for our students and building a diverse student body. I could not be more pleased by the good news!”
