Choosing between a two year college and a four year college can be tricky. Why would someone choose a two year college vs. a four year college? It all depends on your educational and professional goals. Let’s look at some advantages of both.
Two Year College
A two year college can provide you a great option to get an education and a degree quickly. This could allow you to finish college faster and go to work right away. For many people this is particularly appealing. They want to gain a credential as quickly as possible and join the workforce.
Another advantage of a two year college is that they typically cost less than four year colleges. If you want to avoid a heaping pile of debt from student loans, a two year college is a smart way to get started on your education. Many courses are guaranteed to transfer to other universities if you want to pursue more schooling.
Associate Degrees
An associate’s degree can usually be completed in two years. Often, an associate degree can be a great way to start the first two years of a bachelor’s degree.
More and more people are turning to associate degrees for a quicker, less expensive way to change careers as opposed to the traditional bachelor’s or four-year degree.
A lot of jobs will require their workers to have a least “Some College” in their background. An associate degree is a perfect fit for this.
Community Colleges
Here’s a list of community colleges in the area:
WSU Tech (Although it’s a technical college, it offers many of the same transferable courses that a community college offers and is conveniently located in Wichita.)
Butler Community College
Cowley Community College
Hutchinson Community College
Four Year College
Four year colleges are generally quite a bit more expensive than two year colleges. However, students who put in the time and make the financial investment towards their futures will benefit in the long run. Most four year schools can provide a student with more opportunities for student life and the “College experience.”
Bachelor’s Degree
A bachelor’s degree is an undergraduate degree awarded by colleges and universities upon completion of a course of study that usually will take 4-5 years to complete. A few common bachelor’s degrees are Bachelor’s of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor’s of Science (B.S.)
Master’s Degree
A master’s degree is a graduate degree awarded by universities. Students will demonstrate mastery level understandings for their field of study. You can further your career with a masters degree by utilizing the associate degree you gained from WSU Tech.
