Nondestructive testing (NDT) uses testing methods and analysis techniques in industries and science to examine an object, material, or system without damaging it or impairing its usefulness for the future. Nondestructive testing jobs vary across several industries.

 Non-Destructive Testing- NDT

NDT testing includes methods like liquid penetration, ultrasonic, eddy current, visual, radiography, and magnetic particle inspection. Employers in the manufacturing industry look for individuals who have had NDT training. Nondestructive tests are used in manufacturing, fabrication, and in-service inspections to ensure product integrity and reliability, to control manufacturing processes, lower production costs and to maintain a uniform quality level. During construction, NDT is used to ensure the quality of materials and joining processes during the fabrication and erection phases, and in-service NDT inspections are used to ensure that the products in use continue to have the integrity necessary to ensure their usefulness and the safety of the public. NDT testing is commonly used in the aircraft industry, because of this and the many other manufacturing, fabrication and construction industries in the area there are a variety of NDT jobs in Wichita, KS.

NDT Programs

At WSU Tech students learn the six nondestructive testing (NDT) methods in the NDT program, liquid penetration, ultrasonic, eddy current, visual, radiography, and magnetic particle inspection. NDT programs can vary from a technical certificate to an associate of applied science in NDT. Students at WSU Tech receive hands-on experience in both conventional and composite aerospace assembly methods which allows them to apply NDT techniques to the aviations.  Another nondestructive testing program at WSU Tech is Predictive NDT. Students can receive both an associate of applied science in predictive NDT and a predictive NDT technical certificate. In predictive NDT students learn to assess the current condition of industrial equipment and predict its lifespan by assigning failure levels to operating equipment.

 NDT Tools

Welders today must be proficient in many different welding processes including testing and inspecting of welding. NDT welding commonly includes ultrasonic testing, radiography testing, magnetic particle testing, and liquid penetrant testing. When performing an ultrasonic test (UT) short pulse waves are transmitted into materials to detect internal flaws or characterize materials. Ultrasonic thickness measurement is included in UT, this method tests the thickness of an object. NDT welding and ultrasonic testing are used in many industries like steel and aluminum construction, manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and other transportation sectors.

What can I do with a technical certificate?

Once you decide that nondestructive testing is for you, questions may arise like what is an NDT company? Where can I find an NDT company list? What NDT companies are hiring? While you are earning your technical certificate in nondestructive testing at WSU Tech you can work with the career services department to get those questions answered.

 NDT Jobs

NDT jobs are found across many different industries. Included in these jobs are NDT trainee jobs. A trainee is an individual who is documented as participating in a training program for an NDT method and is in the process of becoming qualified for certification. NDT trainees assist NDT professionals, such as NDT engineers, and observe the day to day activities while gaining hands on experience. Once completed with an NDT program other NDT jobs include NDT inspector, NDT technician, NDT engineer, NDT assistant, welding inspector, inspector, NDT technician level ii, and ap mechanic.
