Our Mission

We are here to assist Military members, Veterans, and their dependents navigate and maximize their Education Benefits. Our services include providing information on available education programs, guiding you through the application process, and assisting with the certification process for utilizing your benefits. Our office handles the certification of enrollment and any changes in enrollment for eligible students, submitting this information to the VA Regional Office in St. Louis. As the liaison between students and the VA Regional Office, we ensure smooth communication and support throughout your educational journey.

Important Information Before You Begin:

  • Service members who plan to use Tuition Assistance are required to speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or Education Counselor according to their Military Service Branch prior to enrolling.
  • Section 702 of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act for Residency Rate Requirement, If you are currently considered a Non-Kansas Resident at WSU Tech but are current active military, military spouse or dependent, you may file an In-State Residency form within two weeks of the date of enrollment with the Registrar’s Office

 

Getting Started

How to use your GI Bill® Benefits at WSU Tech

  1. Apply to utilize GI Bill® benefits at va.gov or apply to change your school
  2. Have previous college transcripts including military transcripts sent to WSU Tech’s Registrar Office at 4004 N Webb Rd | Wichita, KS 67226
  3. Meet with an advisor to enroll in classes. Complete a GI Bill® Certification Request. This form must be completed each semester you attend and wish to utilize your GI Bill® benefits.
  4. Turn in a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility or Statement of Benefits (obtainable from va.gov)

You may use the GI Bill® Comparison Tool to compare education benefits and programs. GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Post-9/11 GI Bill® provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.

These benefits may be transferred to a service member’s dependents and/or spouse. This must be done prior to separation via  https://milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect/.

The MGIB® program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training, and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following your release from active duty.

The MGIB-SR® program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. Eligibility for this program is determined by the Selected Reserve components. VA makes the payments for this program.

VEAP is available if you elected to make contributions from your military pay to participate in this education benefit program. Your contributions are matched on a $2 for $1 basis by the Government. Benefit entitlement is 1 to 36 months depending on the number of monthly contributions. You have 10 years from your release from active duty to use VEAP benefits. If there is entitlement not used after the 10-year period, your portion remaining in the fund will be automatically refunded.

Dependents’ Educational Assistance provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training. If you are a spouse, you may take a correspondence course. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances.

Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (VR&E) provides services to veterans with service-connected disabilities.  Veterans are assigned a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor assigned to the school they are attending.  Each school works with the counselor for needed items for approved VR&E veterans.

My Career Advancement Account Scholarship is a workforce development program for eligible military spouses. This provides up to $4,000 in the pursuit of a license, certification, or associate’s degree for occupation.
