Automation Engineer Technology

The Automation Engineer Technology program at WSU Tech prepares students for careers in designing, maintaining, and improving automated systems used in manufacturing and industrial environments. Students gain hands-on experience in areas such as electrical control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics, motor control, fluid power, and process control. The program emphasizes practical skills that allow graduates to install, troubleshoot, and optimize automation equipment across a wide range of industries. Students will round off their educational experience by completing general education courses in five areas of study, including mathematics, humanities, social sciences, English, and communications.

The WSU Tech Automation Engineer Technology program is aligned with the National Center for Education Statistics CIP Code 15.0406: A program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers and other professionals engaged in developing, installing, calibrating, modifying, and maintaining automated systems. Includes instruction in computer systems; electronics and instrumentation; programmable logic controllers (PLCs); electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic control systems; actuator and sensor systems; process control; robotics; applications to specific industrial tasks; and report preparation.
