Wichita, KS – Dec. 18, 2025 – Wichita State University Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology (WSU Tech) has been awarded a new five-year federal TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) renewal grant from the U.S. Department of Education to continue providing individualized academic and personal support to students who are first-generation, low-income, or have a documented disability. The college will receive more than $1.36 million over the grant period to serve up to 140 eligible students each year.

Since 2020, the TRIO SSS program at WSU Tech has helped hundreds of students stay enrolled, persist through challenges, and either graduate or successfully transfer to four-year programs. Services include personalized success coaching, tutoring, mentoring, financial aid guidance, and transfer planning, all designed to support student progress and achievement. In addition to these direct student outcomes, the program has also served as a model for expanding holistic support across the college, informing the development of several additional student success initiatives.  This renewed funding reflects WSU Tech’s long-term commitment to expanding access, removing barriers to success, and improving student retention and completion. These priorities are reinforced in the college’s 2025–2027 Strategic Plan, align with the President’s vision for student-centered excellence, and directly support the institutional mission and values affirmed in WSU Tech’s most recent HLC Assurance Argument.
