WSU Tech President Featured on Mike Rowe’s “The Way I Heard It” Podcast
In the episode titled “It’s Only the Best School in America,” Mike Rowe and Dr. Sheree Utash explore the power of work ethic and technical education
Wichita, KS — August 28, 2025 — Wichita State University Campus of Applied Sciences and Technology (WSU Tech) President Dr. Sheree Utash was recently featured on Mike Rowe’s nationally recognized podcast The Way I Heard It with Mike Rowe.
The episode, titled “Sheree Utash—It’s Only the Best School in America,” features a wide-ranging conversation between Rowe and Dr. Utash. They discuss how she reinvented a college into a national model for workforce development, her role in taking Mike’s S.W.E.A.T. Pledge and shaping it into the mikeroweWORKS curriculum, and why she believes skilled trades are key to America’s future.
WSU Tech and the mikeroweWORKS Foundation have partnered for years to promote the value of skilled careers and instill work ethic as a core part of technical education. That collaboration took center stage last fall when Rowe visited WSU Tech in October 2024 to celebrate the success of the Work Ethic Certification program on campus, drawing statewide and national attention to Wichita as a hub for innovation in technical training.
“Mike Rowe has long been a powerful voice for the dignity of skilled trades, and it was an honor to continue our conversation on his podcast,” said Dr. Utash. “We both believe that giving people the education and training they need for in-demand careers doesn’t just change their lives, it strengthens families, communities, and the economy we all depend on.”
The episode featuring Dr. Utash is now available on mikerowe.com/podcast, all major podcast platforms and on YouTube.
